The foundation of the present hostel earlier it was an orphanage was actually laid on an evening in June 1904, when a priest brought some poor neglected children whom our pioneer sisters took into their house with open arms. In 1905 St. Joseph's Orphanage Girls School was started . In 1968 a new orphanage building was constructed.

Now it is a hostel a home away from home for the students of in and around the villages of Guntur Dt. The warden sister along with her team of wardens keeps a watchful eye over the welfare, personal and academic, of every student in her care for parents she is the main point of contact with the school.

LIFE AT ST. JOSEPH'S :
Much of the students time is in evitably organized for them especially in their early years, but there is much free time too. It is an important feature of boarding school life that each pupil should learn to manage his or her own time in ways that are not only personally fulfilling and enjoyable but also beneficial.

MEDICALCARE :

The hostel pays special attention to the students well being. Since St. Joseph's Hospital is in the same campus, the students are given medical care by the campus doctors. In case of serious illness, the students are admitted to the hospital and the parents are informed immediately.

Parents are requested to inform the warden sister about any special medicine / treatment required by their children or the child has any allergy. Information about unusual health problems should also be shared. So that remedial measures could be taken in order to ensure the child's happiness.

STUDENTS RULES & REGULATIONS :

  • Students must be out of bed immediately after the rising bell
  • All must be washed, fully dressed before the morning prayers.
  • Dormitories should be reasonably quiet at all times.
  • Dormitories are out of bounds during class study hours and other activities.
  • There will be no talking after light out.,
  • School hospital should not be visited without the permission of warden sister.
  • All students must participate in all activities except the students who produce doctor certificate.
  • Food may be consumed only in the dining hall or canteen.
  • Clothes and possessions must be put away tidily before students leave the dormitory.
  • Borrowing of clothes and other things are strictly forbidden.
  • No student should go to bed before the started bed time without the permission of the wardens.
  • No student may tamper with or operate any electrical fitting.
  • Parents, friends etc., should not enter the dormitory.
  • All waste paper must be in the proper receptacle. Students must make a point off picking up and disposing of better and caring for the appearance of school.
  • Watching T.V. will bee permitted only according to the schedule published by the Warden sister.
  • Students are strictly forbidden to make telephone calls to their parents / guardians except in special cases with the permission of warden sister. On Saturday they are free to make phone calls.

GUIDELINES TO PARENTS
In order to achieve our aims as an educational institution we would like you to help us make. Our children follow all hospital rules. May we request you also to keep in mind the following.

  • All letters concerning children except those of a personal nature , should be addressed to the Headmistress / Warden sister by designation and not by name .Are requested not to visit their children at other times especially during class hours , except on second Sunday of every month. In very exceptional cases, written permission of the headmistress / warden sister must be obtained before seeing the child .
  • Are requested to refrain from asking for special leave to attend weddings, ceremonies, social functions and domestic celebrations as leave for such purposes is normally not granted during the term time.
  • Relations and friends wishing to see a child will be required to produce a written request from the parents.
  • Both vegetarian non-vegetarian diets are provided with balanced diet and therefore parents are requested not to send food parcels.
  • Children are not permitted to keep any money .So parents are particularly requested to refrain from giving, money to children when visiting them. All money intended for children should be paid to warden sister.
  • Children are not allowed to bring any valuable articles such as gold jewelry , cameras , watches etc.
  • Credit accounts for children in canteen / phone in school are strictly forbidden.
  • Children are permitted to write letters . If any matter is brought to the notice of parents by a child in these letters, please do not arrive at hasty decision, but talks the warden sister into confidence and get the matter clarified.

Attendance on the day of re-opening and last day before the commencement of each vocation compulsory. So the parents must bring back the students on the re-opening day.
